What raw material are Hydroplast products made from?

The base smart water polymer is (PVA) polyvinyl alcohol which is a refinery product originally derived from ethylene.

Are Hydroplast products sustainable?

Ethylene can be derived from the petrochemical industry or the biomass industry. As the demand increases for sustainably sourced ethylene (bio mass), the life cycle of our Hydroplast products will become more sustainable, as we will move away from petrochemical derived ethylene.

What happens to the waste during production process?

Any waste material created during manufacturing and conversion process is collected and reprocessed. This massively cuts down on the amount of waste.

What products can be made using Hydroplast?

We can make most everyday items that you would normally make from soft, flexible plastic films. It is more suitable for some applications than for others, but we create tailored solutions dependent on individual requirements.

What approval standards/certifications do Hydroplast products meet?

  • European Standards
  • EN13432 "Requirement for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegration" - standard for biodegradable packaging in industrial composting facilities and AD.
  • Requires:
  • at least 90% disintegration after twelve weeks
  • 90% biodegration (CO2 evolvement) in six months
  • passing tests on eco toxicity and heavy metal content
  • EN15985 - an additional standard for AD (mirrors EN13432)
  • EN14995 - same requirements as EN13432 but for all plastics
  • US Standard - ASTM D6400 for biodegradable plastics
  • Home Compostability - Testing under development
  • Biodegradability in Marine Environments
  • No clear standard, only guidelines. Vincotte/TNO scheme based on ASTM D7082 for 'Ok biodegradable marine safe certification.

How do I dispose of my Hydroplast products?

Due to their safe end of life feature, you can dispose of Hydroplast products in several different ways. You can place the product in water of the correct temperature, e.g. for hot water soluble gloves, they can be disposed of in a dishwater. Other methods include, compost, anaerobic digester, recycling, or simply in the trash or recycled.

How long will it take for the Hydroplast products to break down?

This is dependent on the thickness of the product and the environment where it ends up. Sun, water, temperature, micro-organisms and bacteria in the surrounding environment, all have an influence on the time for the product to break down. However, you can always dispose of it instantly by placing it in hot water!

Are Hydroplast Products Toxic?

No. Hydroplast products are 100% none toxic and safe for the environment.

What is left behind when Hydroplast products break down?

Only Hydrogen, Carbon and Oxygen. Nothing else.

Can Hydroplast products be printed on?

Yes. Hydroplast films can be printed on the same way conventional plastics are printed, however we use ink made with organic ingredients, to ensure it leaves behind no toxic residue when the product breaks down.

What is the Hydroplast 360 approval standard?
